Description

This Standard was prepared by the Australian members of Joint Standards Australia/Standards New Zealand Committee CH-009, Safe Handling of Chemicals, to supersede AS 3780:2008. This document has been revised to reflect changes in regulatory requirements and control philosophies that have been refined since the publication of the 2008 edition.

After consultation with stakeholders in both countries, Standards Australia and Standards New Zealand decided to develop this document as an Australian rather than an Australian/New Zealand Standard. This document deals with corrosive substances that are classified as dangerous goods of Class 8, as classified in the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods: Model Regulations.

The objective of this document is to promote the safety of persons, property and the environment where corrosive substances are stored and handled, by providing requirements and recommendations based on industry good practice.

The terms “normative” and “informative” are used in Standards to define the application of the appendices to which they apply. A “normative” appendix is an integral part of a Standard, whereas an “informative” appendix is only for information and guidance.

Statements expressed in mandatory terms in notes to figures and tables are deemed to be requirements of this document. Notes that appear in the main text of this document provide information only.

Revised and redesignated as AS 3780-1994. Previous edition 2008. Third edition 2023.
