Draft Designation: DR AS/NZS 2658:2020This Standard was prepared by the Joint Standards Australia/Standards New Zealand Committee AG-001, Gas appliances to supersede AS 2658—2008, LP Gas—Portable and mobile appliances.
The objective of this document is to provide uniform minimum requirements for the safe design and performance of LP Gas portable and mobile appliances supplied with gas at vapour pressure.
This document should not be regarded as a design specification or as an instruction manual.
In its preparation, consideration has been given to —
(a) continuity of satisfactory operation of appliances and equipment;
(b) the prevention of fire hazards, and explosions;
(c) the prevention of injury to persons or property;
(d) gas rules and regulations now in force; and
(e) relevant International Standards.
The major changes in this edition are as follows:
(i) A general alignment of general structure with AS/NZS 5263.0.
(ii) A clarification of the scope and requirements to ensure appliances under this document are not to be installed.
(iii) Requirements for butane cookers modified to address risks of overheating of cartridges.
(iv) Requirements for heaters included to address risks related to use in tents and enclosed spaces.
(v) Requirements for water heaters updated to clarify usage.
The terms “normative” and “informative” are used in Standards to define the application of the appendices to which they apply. A “normative” appendix is an integral part of a Standard, whereas an “informative” appendix is only for information and guidance.
