Building Bill 2023 - Licensing Proposals
NSW Government
Proposed outcome 15: Modernise and update work authorised by a licence
The work authorised by each licence class is currently outlined in Schedule 4 of the Home Building Regulation. The Building Bill will also prescribe this work in the supporting Regulations.
To inform development of the Regulations, the Department has reviewed the current extended descriptions of work for each licence class to ensure they reflect modern industry practices.
This review also considered the impacts of the proposed expansion into all building classes. The classes of licence were historically written with residential building work at the forefront of their design. While the work itself will likely be the same in most cases, the review presents an opportune time to explore the work authorised in the context of all classes of building.
The table below provides the full list of licence classes proposed in the new framework, a description of the type of work included in each licence class, and a brief explanation of what (if anything) is proposed to change in the Building Bill’s supporting Regulations.
