AS 3786:2022 adopts and modifies ISO 12239:2021 for Australia which specifies requirements, test methods, performance criteria, and manufacturer’s instructions for smoke alarms that operate using scattered light, transmitted light, or ionization, and are intended for household or similar residential applications.

Sets out a hot smoke test methodology by means of which a specified quantity of smoke may be generated, at a safe temperature, within a building.

Specifies a test method for determining the combustibility of building materials and is one of a series of test methods of evaluating the potential fire hazard of building products; the test is for building materials other than coated, faced or laminated materials which, although not completely inert, produce only a limited amount of heat and flame when exposed to temperatures of approximately 750 °C.
