AS 2220-1978 applies to the planning, design and installation of emergency warning and inter-communication systems in buildings, and set out the requirements for the basic systems.

This Standard is identical with and has been reproduced from ISO 10545-1:1995.

Describes methods for the measurement of the field transmission loss and noise reduction of building partitions, including walls of all kinds, floor-ceiling assemblies, doors, etc.

Specifies requirements for control and indicating equipment (CIE) used in emergency warning and intercommunication systems.

Specifies requirements additional to those in AS 1418.1 covering builders hoists and associated equipment. Types included are materials hoists, concrete skip hoists and personnel and materials hoists as defined in AS 2549. Application, classification, loads, load combinations, design, construction, marking and testing are covered. Appendices provide information that should be supplied with tender for supply of a hoist and hazards which should be considered by the designer when designing the hoist.

Sets out procedures for handling, fitting, installation and finishing of timber doorsets specified in AS 2689. It covers installation in cavity masonry walls, solid masonry walls and timber-framed and metal-framed walls. A symbolic designation of the direction of closing and faces of doors is included. It does not apply to the installation of timber doorsets in demountable partitions or fire-resistant doorsets.

Provides guidance on the siting and construction of new buildings against aircraft noise intrusion and on the acoustical adequacy of existing buildings in areas near aerodromes. The assessment of potential aircraft noise exposure at a given site is based on the Australian Noise Exposure forecast (ANEF) system. The Standard also provides guidelines for determining the type of building construction necessary to provide a given noise reduction.

Specifies methods by which a test piece of metal is strained in uni-axial tension at room temperature in order to determine one or more of its tensile properties.

Sets out requirements and recommendations for the storage and handling of oxidizing agents, i.e. dangerous goods of Class 5.1, as classified in the ADG Code. The Standard applies to Class 5.1 swimming-pool chemicals and to Class 5.1 substances that have Subsidiary Risks assigned. It may also apply to substances of other Classes having a 5.1 Subsidiary Risk. A discussion of the hazards presented by oxidizing agents and a bibliography of documents providing guidelines on the preparation of emergency plans are provided in appendices.
