AS 2118/4118

This series groups together the current parts to Australian Standard, AS 2118 Automatic fire sprinkler systems, and; AS 4118 Fire sprinkler systems, available in the BIG library.

The AS 2118 and AS 4118 series are Australian standards that provide guidelines for the design, installation, and maintenance of fire sprinkler systems. 

- AS 2118 covers the general requirements for automatic fire sprinkler systems in buildings. It includes guidelines for system design, installation, and maintenance to ensure that sprinkler systems effectively control or extinguish fires and protect property and lives.

- AS 4118 focuses on specific requirements for fire sprinkler systems used in high-risk and specialised applications, such as hazardous areas or large-scale industrial facilities. It provides detailed criteria for the design and performance of these systems to address unique fire protection challenges.

Together, these standards ensure that fire sprinkler systems are appropriately designed and maintained to provide reliable fire protection in various types of buildings and environments, helping to enhance safety and minimise damage in the event of a fire.

Specifies requirements for the construction and performance of stop valves and non-return valves for fire sprinkler systems.

AS 4118.1.7-1996 Fire sprinkler systems, Part 1.7: Components - Alarm valves (dry)

Specifies the requirements for the construction of dry alarm valves for use in fire sprinkler systems.

AS 4118.1.8-1999 Fire sprinkler systems, Part 1.8: Components - Pressure-reducing valves

Specifies the construction, performance and testing requirements for pressure-reducing valves used in automatic fire sprinkler systems.

AS 2118.1:2017 Automatic fire sprinkler systems, Part 1: General systems

Specifies general requirements for the design, installation and commissioning of automatic fire sprinkler systems in buildings.

AS 2118.8-1997 Automatic fire sprinkler systems, Part 8: Minor modifications

Sets out requirements covering minor modifications to existing sprinkler systems of light or ordinary hazard classification, such as the removal, alteration or addition of sprinklers, or the modification or addition of ranges and distribution pipes of limited size.

AS 2118.10-1995 Automatic fire sprinkler systems, Part 10: Approval documentation

Specifies requirements for the information to be provided for the approval of fire sprinkler systems in accordance with AS 2118.1 and wall wetting sprinkler systems in accordance with AS 2118.2.

AS 2118.1:2017 VERSION 1-1 Automatic fire sprinkler systems, Part 1: General systems

This version of AS 2118.1:2017 VERSION 1-1 is the version published incorporating changes from Amendment No. 1, as published on 21 December 2017. This version of the Standard is referenced in the National Construction Code 2019. The Standard was subsequently amendeded by Amendment No. 2, published on 17 July 2020. Users should refer to the National Construction Code 2019 edition before using this version of this Standard. Otherwise use AS 2118.1:2017. Standard specifies general requirements for the design, installation and commissioning of automatic fire sprinkler systems in buildings.
